Sounds Good, - what's the catch? |
There's no catch. You can join up by post or over the phone, and view the website as often as you want. You can come to the races every time that your horse runs. You can come to see your horse at the stables as often as you wish. The club is set up by genuine racing enthusiasts who DO NOT make their living from horses. The club is run on a non-profit making basis, and accounts are open to inspection to prove this. |
Does this mean that I should invest in a similar way to the stock market? |
No. Investing in racehorses with emphasis on financial return is not the remit of this club. Our emphasis in on sharing the thrill and excitement of being a racehorse owner. Note that your club membership should be purchased for leisure purposes and not as a financial investment. If you are considering substantial financial involvement then please ask about our advisory services. |
How do I know when my horse is due to race? |
When you join we send you a training and racing plan with the expected months of racing. You then receive up to the minute updates on race entries from the members email race updates. You can also get email updates sent to a relative or friend if you do not use the internet often. |
Where in the country will my horse race? |
As our trainers are based in mid England your horse could race at any racecourse in the country. A horse will usually race within 200 miles of the trainer's base - which covers a lot of the UK! Plans are fluid but we will keep you as up to date as possible with the emails. Races are televised at the bookies and on Satellite TV. |
How do I get free tickets for the races? |
We have a number of free tickets for each race, and these are allocated once you have emailed us. The instructions for doing this are sent to you when you register as a member. We usually get half price owners tickets for all other members at each race course too. |

Will my horse win? |
Winning is very special, and many horses will do well to be placed second or third in a season. Think about it this way - with an average of ten horses in every race, and each horses racing ten times each season, the average would be one win per horse per year. In practice this is not the case and most horses do not win at all because there are some excellent horses who win many races each year (these often cost £50,000 to £250,000 though). Realistically the average owner should be pleased if their horse races to the best of his ability and finishes in the top three or four. City Racing Club members should have this realistic expectation. |
What happens if my horse is unable to race? |
We aim to race most horses about eight times a year. Injury rates across the racing industry are generally quite high. Some injuries only require a few days rest, others can be for 12 months. If your horse has an injury that needs a lot of rest then we will endeavor to offer you a substitute to follow. |
What happens to my horse when I leave the club? |
You can cancel your membership and there's no charge for leaving, either on or before the 12 month anniversary. Your horse share reverts to the club for keep costs. Your obligations are spelt out in the club rules, which can be emailed on request. |
Will we get hot tips for the races? |
The aims of the club do not include assisting anyone to make money from complicated betting. There are plenty of tipster organisations with varying degrees of moral and commercial strength. City racing club is not one of these. We hold the view that the bookies’ odds reflect quite accurately your horse’s chances of winning. It follows that whatever the odds; you should get reasonable value for your money if you choose to bet! Very often a place bet on the tote will give you a good value bet. |
